Winchester

WINCHESTER CITY was once the capital of England., and home to King Alfred the Great.

                       King Alfred (poor)

Now it is home to one of the finest medieval cathedrals in the country and Alfred's fine statue marks the beginning (or end !) of the South Downs Way national trail.

Following the River Itchen the trail leaves the city behind ..........
and soon there's just 99 miles to go !
